The study considers the earliest known adversus Judaeos literature in German, most of which has yet to be edited. The texts testify to the continuing relevance of Jewish ideas on religious faith for Christians (especially laypersons) at a time in which Christian animosity toward the Jews was escalating disastrously in many areas. The first part looks at the texts in terms of their sources and the adaptive tendencies they display, proceeding from there to inquire into their potential usage in Christian-Jewish encounters. Part Two proposes an edition of the three tractates on the Jews by the anonymous Austrian Bible translator.
