Today we know that the sensorial impressions a child receives are vitally important to their development. There are some psychological studies that explore the effects of architecture on children's behavior. It is the architect's duty to bear in mind these pedagogic precepts and to put them into practice in the design of buildings. In all of the projects in this book, the architect, guided by pedagogues and other specialists, has found the way of combining all the functional and aesthetic requirements formulated by the clients, designing practical spaces for little children. A thorough introduction by Gunter Beltzig (specialist in the design of objects and spaces specifically for children, and collaborator in a number of publications related to this subject) leads into a selection of international projects. Beltzig also collaborates as editorial coordinator and consultant. The different kindergartens are explained through a series of descriptive texts, plans, drawings, and full-color photos.
