Chaya four one!
Chaya four one! simply means 'Hit four one!' and refers to a bell code used to control mine hoists in the copper mines of Zambia. Four rings followed by one was the code for the surface. The book follows a year in the adventures of James Martin as he sets out to follow a new career in mining in Zambia in 1969. He meets new friends, encounters danger and death and falls in love with a locally raised girl. He learns that running a mine is not simply about book learning but more about people.
